as good as filet is, sometimes you just want a really good burger. as i did this evening...again, sorry if you googled "ornish recipes" and found this...come back next week when i'm going full fledge veg again ;-)

so anyway....i started with my two friends butter (NOT MARGARINE) and EVOO...
pictures 624
but they looked so lonely i decided to drop some more friends off at the pool *cough cough*

onion, garlic, black pepper, sea salt....
pictures 625

and maybe a little pinch of brown sugar and some orange bell pepper and let that simmer away until it looks kind of transluscent and yummy........
pictures 628

put your meat into a mixing bowl...this is 96/4 which i normally would not suggest you use for making a burger but since i'm adding fat to this it all seems to work out and yields a very juicy burger.
add some sea salt, black pepper and chopped garlic...a trinity of sorts.
pictures 626

next we'll add some heat...max's favorite sauce*
pictures 631

now add some more good stuff...doesn't need to be precise...a dab of this a squirt of that
pictures 637

remember this good stuff? add it to the bowl...
pictures 638

pictures 642

my last trip to whole foods i got some parmesean rinds....this one had lots of goodness left so i shredded some on...
pictures 647

now mix it all up...i realize it isn't very appetizing at this point...but go with me
pictures 650

we can't keep cheese in our house....so when i need some, i buy these little guys....sorry foodland peeps - to my knowledge there aren't any nearby...
pictures 651

woops...how'd that happen? i'll give my husband that one...dont' tell him.
pictures 655

now wrap your meat around your cheese like this..
pictures 656

now pop those bad boys into the freezer for around 20 minutes, or the fridge for a couple of hours....use wax paper or you will have a mess.
pictures 660

now let's prep some fries, okay? i use my jellyroll pan, lined with foil....no not the same foil as last time, eeeew. i put a cooling rack on top to get a convection type thing going on....
pictures 663

now add your fries....and just because they have no transfats and we are baking them doesn't mean you can eat the whole bag or you won't be able to sport that belly ring. (lmao...inside joke)
pictures 664

normally i would spray with a little cooking spray, but for some reason i am out....so i am making a tasty improvision.
pictures 665>

i grind on black pepper....who would have thought frozen french fries could look so good?
pictures 670

into the 450 degree oven with those fries as you whip up some beautiful salads...
pictures 675

and slice up (and pepper) some fine looking tomatoes...
pictures 678

and wash some pretty boston lettuce..
pictures 681

now get your burgers out of the freezer...or fridge...whichever
pictures 676

now throw them on a searing hot grill....4 minutes for one side, 3 minutes for the other and ONLY MOVE THEM ONCE
pictures 686

add the cheese of your choice...i'm using white american which i got from the deli case at shop n save..a supervalu corporation ;-P
i'm sure it is still processed as heck but since it doesn't come in a plastic wrapper it makes me feel better.
pictures 687

oooh yeah son!
pictures 692

now retrieve your beautiful golden fries while your meat rests...it's been through a lot, it needs a minute.
pictures 698

now plate it up on a lovely 100% whole wheat bun...
pictures 702

then cut it in half and go for the money shot.
