max suffers from something called corophagia, meaning he loves to eat his own poop. i have literally stood on the back porch with a big hunk of cheese in my hands calling his name and he would rather eat the poop (of course afterwards he runs up and gives me the "okay i'm ready for cheese" face...).

we try hard to catch him in the act but he is quite sneaky. our vet suggested a few things, including sprinkling hot sauce on the poop, which we have put into action. being the guilty puppy-mommy i am, i thougt i thould let him taste a little bit so he'd know what it smelled like before he got a big snootful...in retrospect perhaps that was a mistake. anyway, i started out with green tabasco because it is pretty mild...i touched the tip of the bottle and let him sniff/lick my finger which caused him to go nuts rubbing his face on the ground, and so when i sprinkled a healthy amount onto his next hot dish, we figured problem solved, right?

wrong.

he seems to have developed a taste for the green stuff....so we've moved up the scoville scoville scale to lousiana gold, made with tabasco peppers...i'll keep you updated but he seems to have gotten wise to this and has resorted to pooping on his puppy pad in the bathroom and then scarfing that down before i can catch him - i'm telling you, he's stealth! he could teach chuck norris a thing or two.

I have always heard that if you add meat tenderizer to their food, that they won't eat the poop anymore...

one of the vet techs suggested that...can't hurt to try it definately! i tried Deter and he had an allergic reaction to that...and he did't respond to fresh pineapple or pumpkin so i'll try that! :-) add to food or poo?

To the food... My neighbor did it for a while with her dog and it worked. Problem is, he started eating the other dog's poop and not his...
